The city of Lorain has received an approximate $660,000 grant to install two new electric vehicle charging stations in the city.
The city partnered with the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency to receive a $15 million Charging and Fueling Infrastructure grant to install electric vehicle charging stations at more than 70 locations across Northeast Ohio, according to a news release from Lorain Mayor Jack Bradley.
The total amount awarded to Lorain is approximately $660,000 and will require a 20 percent local match from each partner.
NOACA anticipates the engineering phase to begin in late 2024 and construction to begin in 2026, the release stated.
The agency estimates electric vehicle ownership in Northeast Ohio will increase “sevenfold between 2023 and 2030, demonstrating anticipated demand for more charging stations around the region,” the release also stated.
The stations will be installed at Lorain City Hall’s parking lot, in addition to another located by the Lorain Street Department, 2132 West Park Drive
Each will include two ports with one of each of the stations offering a “fast charger,” the release also noted.
