Sinopec Accelerates Global Expansion of EV Charging Stations, Targets Comprehensive Energy Services


In a significant move to bolster its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, China Petroleum and Chemical Corp (Sinopec) announced on Thursday its ambitious plans to expand both domestically and internationally. As of the end of 2023, Sinopec has successfully established more than 6,000 EV charging stations across 370 cities in 31 provinces, including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Thailand, and Singapore. This expansion is part of Sinopec’s strategic plan to transition from a traditional fuel provider to a comprehensive energy service provider. Sinopec’s retail unit, Easy Joy, a leading convenience store chain in China based on the number of stores, operates the country’s largest self-operated car wash system. With services available at over 9,500 locations, Easy Joy boasts an annual car wash volume surpassing 140 million.

The company’s forward-looking approach involves focusing on oil, gas, hydrogen, electricity, and non-fuel businesses.
