Sunlight and vegetable oil: That’s how this SA startup plans to power its off-grid EV chargers

Startup Zero Carbon Charge wants to roll-out 120 off-grid electric vehicle (EV) chargers powered by solar panels and vegetable oil-burning generators along SA’s national roads by September next year.

The co-founder and director of Zero Carbon Charge, Joubert Roux, explains that the inevitable widespread adoption of electric vehicles in the country, coupled with the unique challenges of energy supply, prompted the company to develop a South African charging solution.
