Tesla building world’s largest Supercharger in the middle of the desert with 164 stalls bigger than 20 football fields

A REVOLUTIONARY charging station, built by EV giant Tesla, is currently in the works.

Tesla’s plans to build a massive 164-stall charging station became public, revealing potential EV plans set to roll out across the US.

The plans were detailed in a post on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter before its acquisition by Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk.

Public records, released in several posts, show Tesla purchased a 26-acre lot of land near the intersection of California’s I-5 and I-46.

The 26 acres are around the size of 20 football fields – it’s around a 45-minute drive north of Bakersfield, California.

Plans include 164 charging stations, all covered by canopies, and dozens of other off-grid innovations.

The off-grid solutions could have a financial impact on individual drivers, according to InsideEVs.

Energy created via Tesla-owned solar panels could be cheaper than energy from public utilities.

A central battery storage area, capable of storing excess energy from the solar panels, line the outside of the alleged plans.

The plans also include “pull through” stalls – drivers on X speculated the specialized charging stations are modeled for drivers using their EVs to tow.

“Future Development Areas” in the middle and west-side of the lot are also mapped out.

There is no word on what Tesla could build in those two areas.

McDonald’s and Denny’s restaurants sit on the opposite side of the highway intersection.

There are no updates on the station’s building timeline.

The lot’s 164 charging stations would be Tesla’s largest supercharging facility, beating out a nearby Harris Ranch supercharging point.

Harris Ranch’s Supercharger boasts 98 plugs.

Another charger in Shenzen, China has 637 charging spots – it is not built entirely with Supercharging capacity.

Tesla’s EV charging network is the largest global fleet of plugs with over 50,000 Superchargers, according to the company’s website.

The Superchargers are capable of providing vehicles up to 200 miles of driving range in minutes, depending on the car battery’s capacity.

Tesla was among the first investors in charging stations across the US, giving the company a giant lead on charging infrastructure.

The company has partnered with other EV manufacturers to allow Tesla-specific plugs to fit in 2024 electric models.

“This is going to be a very busy Supercharger location,” one X-user predicted about the potential world-record-holding station.

Other Tesla drivers are not as excited about the station’s potential popularity.

“It will still fill up on the major travel holidays, especially with non-Teslas using it,” another driver grimaced.
