Ford Announces Tesla Supercharger Access for F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E customers in the U.S. and Canada, marking a significant step in improving electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. This collaboration allows Ford EV customers unprecedented access to over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers, addressing one of the main concerns potential EV buyers have: the availability of reliable charging stations.

Key Highlights:

  • Unprecedented Access: Ford EV customers can now use Tesla Superchargers, significantly expanding charging options.
  • Free Fast Charging Adapter: Available at no cost for customers enrolled in the BlueOval™ Charge Network until June 30, 2024.
  • Increased Charging Network: Access to 15,000+ Tesla Superchargers doubles the fast-charging availability for Ford EV customers.
  • Seamless Payment: Integration through the FordPass App simplifies the charging process.
  • Future-Proofing: Ford’s upcoming EVs will feature built-in NACS connectors, eliminating the need for adapters.

The integration into Tesla’s Supercharger network is a pivotal move by Ford to enhance the EV ownership experience, significantly mitigating the charging station scarcity concern. A Cox Automotive Consumer Sentiment Study highlighted the lack of charging infrastructure as a major barrier to EV adoption, second only to price. This initiative not only doubles the fast-charging options for Ford EV owners but also simplifies the charging process through a stored payment account via the FordPass or Charge Assist Apps, promoting the use of Plug & Charge functionality.

Ford’s decision to provide the Fast Charging Adapter for free to its current and future retail customers (until June 30, 2024) underlines the company’s commitment to its EV customers’ satisfaction and convenience. After this period, the adapter will be available for purchase at $230, including taxes and shipping.

Ford President and CEO Jim Farley expressed gratitude towards Tesla for their collaboration, emphasizing the significant impact on Ford’s EV customers by more than doubling their fast-charging options and enhancing the overall public charging experience.

This strategic partnership not only benefits Ford’s current EV owners but also positions Ford as a forward-thinking player in the EV market, ready to meet the needs of future electric vehicles and their drivers.
